YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS
Youth Development Programs focus on
academic achievement, leadership development and strengthening
ties to family and culture. 300 youth from kindergarten to 12th
grade were served in 2005 and 360 in 2006.
Future Bound
Youth (FBY)
The goals of the
Future bound Youth Program are to nurture youth’s development
and enhance their social and academic skills so they can reach
productive, satisfying, and economically promising futures. The
activities include after school tutoring, cultural specific
lessons, games, summer enrichment programs, health/wellness
programs, and parent support group.
Youth
Intervention Program (YIP)
In cooperation
with the Southeast Asian Community Coalition for Youth and
Families, UCAM is working to prevent crime, drug use, and gang
activity. In addiction to regular programs for youth, UCAM is
operating an intervention project for previously incarcerated
Cambodian youth, many of whom are gang involved. Staff serves
as a liaison between public schools and Cambodian parents;
proving support for children and families at risk, offering
Cambodian children age 10-21 alternatives to negative behavior,
and emphasizing positive parenting skills and self-esteem.
