Message from the Executive Director
Dear Friends, Community Partners and Supporters,
In 2007, United Cambodian Association of Minnesota (UCAM) has become a stronger and more effective organization in responding its clients’ needs and in addressing complex issues and challenges faced by Cambodian community in the state of Minnesota. Over the last 3 years, UCAM has gone through a restructuring process at the board, management, and programming level. Recently, UCAM has asked its stakeholders to provide input on its programs and services, suggestions for improvement, and recommendations for change through its strategic planning process.
On behalf of the board of directors and staff of UCAM, I would like to thank all of you for your contributions and support during the time of crisis, and especially in 2004 and 2005. Because of your help and support, I would like to proudly say that UCAM not only survives but it stands even stronger than before. Each year since 2005, UCAM has received 10,000 plus of volunteer hours contributed from over 300 individuals. Your help and support mean a lot to our clients and us.
Here are some highlights of our programs and services that UCAM’s staff have provided to our community:
-
Each year, our Youth Development Program serves about 360 individuals of youth through its in-school and after-school, mentoring, summer school, youth intervention, referral, and traditional dance programs.
-
We serve over 500 elders a year through our Elderly Services. Activities include health screening, medical appointments, transportation and translation, housing, medical enrollment, health education, recreational activities, and physical activities.
-
Our Legal/Immigration Services serve 700+ individual clients a year with an average of 60 clients a month. Services include green card application, naturalization, citizenship for children, and family based petitions.
-
Our Family/Refugee Services serves 250+ families through family counseling, employment, parenting classes, financial literacy classes, and basic need services for new arrivals.
All of our accomplishments depend on the supporters like you. We would like to ask you to continue supporting us within your means. Again, I would like to say thank you to all of you very much for helping us doing our jobs and for making a difference in our Cambodian community.
Respectfully,
Yorn Yan
Executive Director
