Mentoring
The overall goal of the
CSAM-UCAM Mentorship Program is to provide disadvantaged
Cambodian American youth with mentorship, personal guidance,
leadership and educational skills so they are able to utilize
them for both in their personal life and in school environments.
The mentorship program is a partnership between the
Cambodian Student Association of Minnesota (CSAM) and the United
Cambodian Association of Minnesota (UCAM) that matches high
school with college students. There are two components of this
mentorship program: Community Based and Academic Based. The
community-based component involves mentors and mentees being out
in the community that include: hanging out, going to movies,
playing sports, etc. This will be an important aspect in the
mentorship program as mentors and mentees develop a stronger
connection through their common interests. The academic-based
mentorship component involves education through tutoring;
filling out FAFSA, scholarships, college applications; and
college visits.
